Photo challenge : Day 1

Home …

home

This photo I took with my old camera a year ago, when the dolphins where still hanging there. I still love the dolphins though and wish I had never given them away.  🙂

I have a new camera which I will be practicing with, it´s a Nikon D3200 and I absolutely still have to learn everything. That is why I am here I guess.

See you tomorrow !

Make a prompt personal : pens and pencils

When was the last time you wrote something substantive — a letter, a story, a journal entry, etc. — by hand? Could you ever imagine returning to a pre-keyboard era?

Quite some years ago, a lot of years,  I ended up writing a short story by hand. What had happened ?

There was a girl … of course. Her name was Kim.  Actually I had  been crazy about her curly hair and starry blue eyes for months. I was at her feet. Myself I was only 22 at that time. We both liked going out to town on weekday nights when bars where empty and dark. One night we ended up kissing each other. I was in heaven.

Not long after that kiss, maybe a few days later,  she told me she liked me but had no intention of starting a real relationship with me for different reasons. We were in the middle of winter and she broke my heart. That night I stayed up and started to drink a bottle of whiskey which I conveniently had nicked from my fathers liquor cabinet . I was broken and quite tipsy.  I started writing her a letter of what had happened after she had said the two letter word : n o .

The story was totally fictitious and filled with hilarious happenings which had happened the night after she had turned me down. I remember parts of the story, in a bar I end up in a discussion with the bartender and after a while I discover myself on the floor with a lot of bottles. I have amusing encounters with halfdrunken nightcrawlers like myself and in the end I end up in a graveyard chased by large dogs and find a gravestone which says Kims Heart. The whole thing described quite an absurd and comical drunken adventure.

Later , the next week , I gave her the story to read. A couple of days later she told me she had loved reading it and had had quite a few good laughs and that was it… We never kissed again, after a while we lost touch of each other but in myself I had discovered a love of writing.

When was it that you remember that you found yourself writing ?

Be inspired by the neighbors

As I recently gave a comment at someone´s booklist … I decided to make a list of my own. I love books, I don´t read a lot but I love books. So why not give a list of books which I have loved reading in the hope that you guys enjoy them as much as I did.

1. The Secret Life of Bees – Sue Monk Kidd

2. The God of Small Things – Arundhati Roy

3. Girlfriend in a Coma – Douglas Coupland

4. The Ground Beneath her Feet – Salman Rushdie

5. The Sum of Our Days – Isabel Allende

These are all books which I have read the last couple of years and which have impacted my life in a smaller or bigger way. Mostly because I loved reading them. Maybe someone finds a book he or she wants to read …

Je suis Charlie

Today was the day of the big manifestation in Paris. All the big world leaders were there plus about a million other people. Right now I am in Brussels but actually part of me wanted to be there. Paris, the city of light, city at the center of the world right now. It´s not that far from here, I could have taken the train this morning… I live in Brussels this week and I feel with what happened in France.

I´ve thought a lot these past few days. What is happening in France, in the world, for that matter? Are we standing up for freedom of speech or are we sympathizing with the victims ? I am for freedom of speech, I can´t get around that. I also felt this oneness in the street earlier this week. It was everywhere you looked. People had only one thing on their mind and it was the terrible attack earlier that week on Charlie Hebdo. On Thursday when I arrived in Brussels and went for a walk in town I had the general feeling that muslims I met where ashamed. Just by looking at them they almost all looked away, looked down as I walked in the street. It had also shocked them.

Sometimes I get the feeling that the world needs to be shaken up once in a while, to get pushed in the right direction again. This kind of thing does something with people, it actually brings people together how horrific it may be. I visited New York six months after 9/11 and everybody was full about how much the city had changed since then. People cared more about each other, actually even talked to each other. On the place of the Twin Towers there were two gigantic lights installed which shined brightly in the sky.

I also happened to be in Norway a few weeks after Anders Breivik had killed 77 people. The same story there, the drama had brought people together, there was a massive peace demonstration in Oslo where people were preaching tolerance.

Somehow these mass drama´s bring people together. People end up standing closely together, supporting each other. I wish there were no killings first before people came together. I feel like protesting now. At least then you´re together in a way. Shouldn´t we march against what is happening in Syria and Irak or Sudan ? Is there someone who wants to march with me, maybe for the climate or for yes, … Christ ? Let us all march for something this week.

This is for my dream reader …2353644.si

P.S. : Probably I should give someone credit for the picture which I just plucked from the internet and don´t remember where it came from … thank you!

´Why am I here ?´

Long ago, I used to travel quite extensively. South America , Northern Africa and eventually India … and later some other places.

What I remember especially about traveling in India was making friends with fellow backpackers. At the end of each day we would sit on the roof, make a fire and tell stories to each other. Stories or even just random thoughts on philosophy, meditation, the meaning of life and that kind of stuff. It now is more than ten years ago … but I still think back about those days and remember them as being filled with joy and satisfaction.

I would like my blog to reflect some of the thought patterns of back in those days … some of the craziness, the humour and the depth of the conversations. That is why this blog is here…to share on life and other good things … So I guess I would mainly like to connect with other people on the roof, if there are any of you out there. …  😉
